Final Update

THIS IS IT — Raceday in just 5 days !!  And we are READY !!

You’re on the home stretch now & we soooo appreciate all your efforts in supporting this exciting day & Dragonboat Beaufort’s Outreach Mission.  Just a few last-minute items & some housekeeping …….
First, attached is the Race Schedule for the 1st two Qualifying Heats.  Also a map of the Athlete’s Village.
City of Beaufort Rules for Waterfront Park:
   No glass containers
   NO ALCOHOL
Do not encroach on any of the brick/concrete walkways with team gear, tent, etc.
No stakes of any kind in the park
Do not dump ICE from coolers onto the grass — it kills it! (there are drains, parking lots, etc.)
Housekeeping” —
   —  Please inform your paddlers of a time to arrive in the park.
   —  Seriously consider CARPOOLING — you should’ve received the Parking Map by now.
   —  Equipment can be unloaded at Scott St. Ext — there will be folks to assist with the drop-off & direct you to your tents.
   —  Check in at the Registration Tent (right near the drop-off) to receive your Captains’ Packet & deliver your signed Team Waivers to us!
   —  Make sure to bring your own water/ice/coolers & plenty of it!
   —  There will be some food trucks in the park in the morning & the restaurants along the waterfront will of course be open for lunch.
   —  Bandwidth in the park has been increased for Raceday, so you can POST/SHARE anything & everything about what’s going on!
   —  To assist your friends/family coming to join in the festivities there is a Downtown Free Shuttle that runs from 11a-7p.  It makes stops in the City Parking Lots, Waterfront Park & the Santa Elena History Center.  You’ll see signs at the designated stops & can obtain a route map at the Marina.
Many, many thanks to you & your teams for the donations we’ve received so far …… but don’t stop yet!!  Please, please share with them that first & foremost Dragonboat Raceday is a fundraiser to assist people in our very own community who are struggling with daily needs as they fight the battle of their lives — let’s not let them down!  And thank you in advance for that last push……. ANY & ALL DONATIONS WELCOMED THROUGHOUT THE DAY !!  (just bring to the Registration Tent)
See you Saturday PADDLES UP!!

Update 2

Ahoy Dragonboat Captains !!
Things are moving right along & we’re fast approaching Raceday!  Check out the Leader Board listed on the Teams page…. you definitely want to see your name there!  Listed are the top fundraising teams as well as individuals.
So now it’s time to fill your boats, get your paddlers signed up, add your TEAM BIO (very important — it’s what our Raceday announcer will share about you with all the spectators) & post all your fundraising $$’s.  Please encourage your paddlers to post funds they raise to their personal page under “My Account”.  Credit card donations will be reflected immediately, while checks need to reach us & then be cleared before seen in the paddler’s $$ total.  HOWEVER, anything that’s actually received in the system (a completed order) will generate an email to the person whose email is attached to the donation, stating their order has been received.
Captains, you can create or edit your Team Bio on your page in “My Account” by scrolling to “Edit My Team Bio”.  You can also upload team photos here & team members can edit their own individual bios in the same way.  When fundraising $$’s are entered by anyone, please instruct your folks to “Proceed to Checkout” & “Place Order” to complete the process; then look for the confirmation email as described above.
I’m sure everyone’s interested in the PRACTICE SCHEDULE which you’ll receive by June 1st.  Just like last year, DBB will conduct practices the weekends of June 8th & 15th; High Five, our vendor will have their practices June 19th, 20th & 21st.  Everyone should be able to get in 2 practices.  Also, as in the past, you’ll email me with your 1st & 2nd choices once you receive the schedule.
Lastly, we are aware there’s an issue on the website related to your being notified whenever someone joins your team.  We are sorry for that inconvenience; our Webmaster is working on that, but in the meantime, please instruct your paddlers to notify you when they sign up.
Stay tuned for actual Raceday details in future Updates.  And going forward the Captains’ Updates (past & present) will be posted on the website in the “Blog” section.
Many, many thanks for all you’re doing to make this Raceday a resounding success!  We’re looking forward to seeing you & your teams out on our beautiful river come June 22nd !!

ONE MORE TIME …….. please inform your paddlers to wear shoes that can stay on their feet (no flip flops); bring WATER; gloves, hat sunscreen, sunglasses all helpful; they can bring their own PFD’s as long as Coast Guard approved. Arrive at least 20 min prior to your scheduled practice time for land instruction.

PARKING —  for the weekend at PRLM, park at 1 Professional Place on the corner adjacent & walk to Marina; the Marina lot cannot accommodate as many cars as will be there & they have asked us to please convey this to all — please honor that request.

For the weekdays at Waterfront Park, inform your team they have to pay for parking until 7pm — we cannot call off the Meter Guy/Gal!

LASTLY, and this is important — ASSUME PRACTICE IS TAKING PLACE UNLESS YOU HEAR OTHERWISE!  We will do everything in our power to notify you of a cancellation in the most expedient way possible — I have your email contact, so that’s what you should be checking.  Just a friendly suggestion, don’t second-guess the weather, especially if you’re not in Beaufort; our guys are monitoring it constantly — storm cells, wind, tide, all of it!  I mention this because several teams missed getting a practice because the weather in Port Royal actually gave us some windows to get people safely out on the water, but they were no-shows….. we’re just as concerned for your safety as you are!

A million thanks for all your doing & see you at PRACTICE!

Chris & Darlene

Update 3

HELLO ALL YOU FABULOUS CAPTAINS !!

Raceday is a mere 22 days away!  We are ecstatic to have 28 teams (our goal)!

Make sure you’re getting all your paddlers registered so they can complete the online waiver during the process.  Advise them to notify you when they register so you know who’s on your roster.  An ideal team would have 20, plus a few additional paddlers, but 16 is definitely the minimum for paddlers in each race.  Remember you must also have a drummer to actively drum during the race.  For Community teams, there must be a minimum of 8 female paddlers in each heat.

Donate! Donate! Donate!  Let’s not forget the purpose of Raceday!  This is DBB’s major Fundraiser to fulfill our Mission, so once a paddler’s registered they’ll have their own “My Fundraising Page”.  They can solicit/post donations & share on Facebook.  Credit card donations are processed immediately; checks should be mailed to Dragonboat Beaufort, PO Box 213, Beaufort, 29901 & must be received BEFORE they can be processed/cleared in the system & appear on the fundraising page.

As promised, attached you’ll find the Practice Schedule.  Follow the directions, email your choices to me ASAP & be sure I receive NO LATER THAN JUNE 4TH so everyone can be notified of their Team time slot(s).

Finally, we know there have been challenges to the new Raceday website & we are truly sorry for the inconvenience.  Thank you all for persevering!  If your rosters have duplicates or need tweaking let us know & we should be able to clean them up.

Also attached is a general map of Waterfront Park.  In future Updates we’ll have a parking map & more details included.

Saving the “best for last”…….. many, many thanks for all you’ve done & continue to do!  We are so very, very grateful that you’ve taken this on — it couldn’t happen without your dedication & caring hearts!  Looking forward to a highly successful & hugely FUN Raceday!!

Paddles Up!

Chris & Darlene

Update 1

Greetings “Fearless Leader” Dragonboat Captains

We’re fast approaching May & you should be registering your teams if you haven’t already — remember May 1st is the cutoff for discounted registration fees!  Please let us know one way or another if you plan to participate in this year’s race — just a quick reply to this email would be appreciated.

You may have noticed a redesigned Raceday website so we are attaching the step-by-step instructions for registering your team, both individual paddler pay & sponsored/pre-paid.  Please follow these instructions & if you have issues please reach out to Darlene at darmcgrath59@gmail.com.

Once you register your team, please populate your roster, designate Captain & drummer & write up your “team bio”.  Then as your paddlers sign up, they can sign in to their account & go to “My Fundraising Page” to say a little bit about themselves & why they’re paddling.

Remember, it’s not too soon to start fundraising!

We’re also attaching a Dragonboat seating chart which may be of assistance as you plan your team’s strategy for a fun & successful Raceday!!

And as always don’t hesitate to contact one of us with questions or concerns.
